Practice Drills & Activities

Putting

  • How many 3-foot putts you can make in a row.  Work up to 100 in a row. The clock putting drill is a widely used method: https://www.mygolfinstructor.com/instruction/putting/drills/clock-drill/19/
  • 10 foot putts - put a tee in the ground about 6 inches short of the hole and another tee about 12 inches beyond the hole. A “good” putt is one that reaches the first tee and if it doesn’t go in the hole, stops short of the second tee. Now from 10 feet (about 3-4 good strides depending upon your height), hit 10 putts, see how many “good” putts you can make.
  • Lag Putting - put a tee in the ground about 1 foot short of the hole and another tee about 2 feet beyond the hole. A “good” putt is one that reaches the first tee and if it doesn’t go in the hole, stops short of the second tee. Now from 30 feet (about 10-12 good strides depending upon your height), hit 10 putts, see how many “good” putts you can make. Repeat this from 40 feet and from 50 feet.
